Rita Kálmán is art historian and curator. She studied art history and cultural management at the University of Vienna, the University of Edinburgh and the IKM (Institut for Cultural Management and Cultural Studies) Vienna. Between 2004-2006 she was the executive director of the Studio of Young Artists’ Association, Budapest. She is co-founder and co-director of Impex–Contemporary Art Provider, an independent art initiative in Budapest. Since 2008 she is the program-coordinator of ACAX Agency for Contemporary Art Exchange, that operates in the frame of the Ludwig Museum–Museum of Contemporary Art, Budapest.
She curated numerous exhibitions and programs of contemporary art and interventions in the urban environment, among others: Encounter of Parallels (Budapest, 2009), In the heart of the 8th district (Vienna, 2008), Wolfgang von Kempelen – Man/Machine (Műcsarnok/Kunsthalle, Budapest and ZKM, Karlsruhe, 2007), 2. Biennale of Quadrilateral (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Rijeka, 2007), Urban Potentials – Ideas and Practice (Budapest and Dresden, 2006)
